Confirming an itinerary marks it as booked and ready, triggering automatic updates like sale date recording and shared link activation.
What is a confirmed status?
Certain statuses are defined as "confirmed statuses". When your itinerary has one of these statuses, it's confirmed. When you confirm an itinerary, Tourwriter records the confirmation date and user, triggers the celebratory confetti feature (if enabled) , and ensures itinerary sharing link with travellers remains active.

How to confirm an itinerary
To confirm an itinerary, change its status to one of the confirmed statuses listed above.
- Open your itinerary.
- Go to the Setup tab.
- Find the Status field.
- Click the dropdown and select a confirmed status (for example, "Confirmed — deposit paid").
- Click Save.
Your itinerary is now confirmed.
What happens when you confirm
When you change an itinerary's status to a confirmed status, the following occur automatically:
- Sale date is recorded - Your organisation's system records the date the itinerary moved into a confirmed status. This helps you track when bookings were finalised.
- Confirmation metadata is captured - Tourwriter records the exact time of confirmation (confirmed_at timestamp) and the user who confirmed it (confirmed_by). This creates an audit trail.
- Confetti activation (if enabled) - If your organisation has enabled the confetti feature, a celebratory animation plays. This is a visual cue that the confirmation was successful.
- Sharing is active - If the itinerary has a start date in the future and sharing is enabled, the traveller's shared link remains active.
What happens when you unconfirm
If you change an itinerary's status from a confirmed status to an unconfirmed status, the confirmation metadata is cleared.
- The system removes the confirmed_at timestamp and confirmed_by user record. The sale date is also cleared.
- This allows you to move bookings back to earlier pipeline stages (for example, from "Confirmed — deposit paid" to "Proposal") if circumstances change.
Confirmation and sharing
Sharing and confirmation are tightly linked. Unconfirmed itineraries have automatic sharing behaviour designed to protect you from sharing incomplete trips.
For unconfirmed itineraries after the start date
If an itinerary has a status of Proposal or Not booked, and its start date has passed, sharing is automatically disabled. This prevents travellers from accessing an outdated or incomplete itinerary.
When sharing is disabled:
- The shared link shows "There's been a change to your access"
- Sharing icons in the Itineraries tab appear greyed out
- The toggle in the sharing dialog shows "Sharing for this itinerary is inactive"
To reactivate sharing, change the itinerary's status to a confirmed status.
For confirmed itineraries
Confirmed itineraries can share at any time, regardless of the start date. Sharing remains active for as long as you keep it enabled in the sharing dialog.
FAQ
Why should I confirm an itinerary?
Confirmation signals that a booking is real. Your dashboard and reports use confirmed itineraries to calculate conversion rates and pipeline metrics. Confirming ensures your business data is accurate and actionable.
Can I unconfirm an itinerary after confirming it?
Yes. Change the status back to an unconfirmed status (such as Proposal or Not booked). The confirmation metadata will be cleared, and the itinerary will move back through your pipeline.
What's the difference between Pre-confirmed and Confirmed — not yet paid?
Pre-confirmed is used when the traveller has committed but formal paperwork hasn't been completed. Confirmed — not yet paid is used when the booking is formal but no payment has arrived yet. Choose whichever best reflects your workflow.
Will the shared link work if the itinerary is unconfirmed?
If the itinerary is unconfirmed and its start date has passed, the shared link will display an access error. Change the status to a confirmed status to reactivate it. If the start date hasn't passed yet, the link will work regardless of status.
Can I share an itinerary before confirming it?
Yes, you can enable sharing before confirmation. However, if the start date passes and the itinerary remains unconfirmed, the link will be automatically disabled. The traveller will see an access error.
What happens to the sale date if I unconfirm?
The sale date is cleared when you move from a confirmed status to an unconfirmed status. If you later confirm the itinerary again, a new sale date is recorded.
Does the confetti feature require a confirmed status?
Yes. The celebratory confetti animation only plays when you transition an itinerary into a confirmed status. It doesn't play for other status changes.
