Adding a Flight type product to an Itinerary

Adding a Flight type product to an Itinerary

When adding a Flight type product to an Itinerary, you will notice a few fields that are different compared with other product types. These fields are designed specifically to capture the essential details required for air travel. This article explains each of these fields and how to use them correctly.

When adding or editing a flight product to an itinerary, the following fields are unique to this type:
  1. Airline
  2. Flight number
  3. Flight duration
  4. Departure and arrival airport

Airline

All airlines use a 2 letter code unique to them that can be used to globally. To search and add using the Airline field:
  1. Search for and select the appropriate airline using the two letter code of the full airline name.
  2. Only airlines available in the system will appear in the search results.
  3. Selecting the airline ensures the correct airline code is applied to the flight.

Flight Number

All flight numbers are numeric values that relate to a specific flight when appended with an airline code. If an Airline is selected as above, the airline code will automatically be appended and you only need to enter the numeric portion of the Flight Number.

Note: Flight number data prior to release 1.77.0 condensed Airline code and flight number. To delete the Airline code to make use of the airline code lookup fyou will need to delete the old flight number data first.

Flight Duration

Flight duration is automatically calculated based on the Departure and Arrival dates and times you enter.
  1. Users can manually override the duration when flight traverse into a different timezone (this will be done after first setting the actual flight departure and arrival date and time).
  2. This is a text field so you can enter the duration in your preferred format (Example: 1 hour, 2 hours 17 mins, 45 mins etc).
Note: If the Flight duration was manually entered, then the system will not recalculate the duration automatically if you update the dates or times. Use the Refresh button in such case.

Departure and Arrival Airport

The departure and arrival airport fields use a airport location lookup to search all known airport. This is different to the address locaitons lookup that searchs for addresses.
  1. You must explicitly select a valid airport for the Departure and Arrival Airport field.
  2. Only known airports in the system will be available.
  3. No other location types (such as cities or custom locations) will be listed.
Begin typing the airport name or code to search and select the correct option.

Note: Flight location data prior to release 1.77.0 will use the address locations fields. To use the airport location data first delete both location values and save and then return to the Edit item details dialog to use the newer airport location values.
